Bahrain’s desert climate means it’s warm year-round, with December to March offering a break from the hottest temperatures. Formula 1 fans should visit during the spring to catch their favourite drivers competing for trophies in the Bahrain Grand Prix. It’s also worth noting that restaurants and shops often close for Eid and Ramadan, so if you’re not visiting for these holy events, you may prefer to visit at a different time.

You can reach Bahrain’s capital, Manama, in around 20 minutes by taxi, and 30 minutes by bus. The island nation is the smallest country in the Persian Gulf, so it doesn’t take long to reach any of the sights via public transport, or by car if you choose to hire one.

These days Bahrain is known for its Formula 1 events, but there’s much more to be uncovered. Here you can dive for pearls, buy 24-carat gold jewellery in the bustling souks and visit ancient sites. Bahrain was once home to one of the oldest civilisations in the Middle East, meaning there’s 6,000 years of history hidden beneath its modern surface. Then you can take in the Islamic architecture, soak up the warm weather and explore the art scene, before indulging in a meal at one of the country’s excellent restaurants.
